State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister, Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo attended the Cyber Security Policy Discussions and Cyber Security Awareness Video Competition (University Level) Awards Ceremony

The  Cyber ​​Security Policy Discussions and Cyber ​​Security Awareness Video Competition (University Level) Awards Ceremony was held this morning at the Ministry of Transport and Communications in Nay Pyi Taw. State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo attended and delivered a speech.

At the ceremony, State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo said that as the global community today can reap the advantages of leveraging information technology, we are grappling with the vulnerabilities such as the proliferation of malicious software, the increase in cybercrime, the proliferation of cyber threats, the disruption of the critical information infrastructure services such as the financial services industry, banking, telecommunication services, challenges and difficulties associated with cyber security such as leakage and theft of personal information. He additionally mentioned that specific incidents of cyber attacks, impacting the functioning of crucial information systems, have resulted in harm to government, public, and private resources, services, and reputation. He also said that  following the implementation of the Telecommunications Law in Myanmar in 2013, the telecommunications sector transitioned into a liberalized market and with the extensive adoption of online services and e-Government systems, both the industry and the day-to-day socio-economic activities have grown progressively reliant on the utilization of information technology. In accordance with the widespread dependent fo the usage of information technology, cyber threats and attacks have also increased.

He also mentioned that the advancement of artificial intelligence technology has repercussions on human existence and the living environment, potentially influencing national security. This is why we are endeavoring to establish regulations and rules to govern its impact. He also said that it is necessary not to lose sight of the fact that technology is continually advancing within the realm of cyberspace.
He also mentioned that in order to understand and address challenges effectively, the Cybersecurity Policy, approved by the Union Government Office in March 2023, is essential. This policy has been disseminated to enhance awareness and ensure compliance among union-level organizations, ministries, divisions, and states. He stated that today’s discussion is to clarify the 7 objectives and 5 policy points included in the cyber security policy. He also said that this policy is founded on fundamental elements outlined in the national cybersecurity strategy by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and relevant ministries to meet the current conditions of Myanmar. The collaborative effort of organizational representatives was instrumental in its development. He addtionally mentioned that in order to establish a secure, stable, and resilient cyberspace, strategic adoption of policies, laws, procedures, guidelines related to cybersecurity, organizational structure, human resource development, and the implementation of cybersecurity support materials and technologies is essential. In this endeavor, active collaboration is required from government organizations, service providers, private entities, and the general public.

He expressed his belief that the discussions held during today’s meeting will identify Myanmar’s sectoral cooperation mechanism on cybersecurity, contributing to expediting the implementation of the policy. He mentioned that during today’s event, there will also be a ceremony to recognize and award the winners of the university-level cyber security awareness video competition. This competition was conducted to enable Myanmar’s participation in the “ASEAN-Japan Cyber Security  Awareness Video Competition”,a collaborative initiative organized by the ASEAN-Japan Cyber ​​Security Working Committee and Cyber ​​Security Brunei. 47 students from diverse states and regions enthusiastically took part in the competition. He also said that today’s ceremony vividly showcases the passion and dedication of the younger generation keenly interested in the field of cybersecurity. He articulated his confidence that the implementation and adherence to Myanmar’s cybersecurity policy will foster the development of sectoral cooperation in cybersecurity and shape the future trends of cybersecurity awareness and human resource development.

Then, Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister rewarded the winners from Cyber ​​Security Awareness Video Competition : Mg Myat Min Khant from University of Computer Studies, Yangon(the one who got first), Mg Hein Min Khant Technological University (Mawlamyine) (the one who got second), Ma Khine Shwe Sin Win from National Management Degree College (Yangon) (the one who got third), Mg Bawe Nyaung from Nationalities Youth Resource Development Degree College (Sagaing) (The one who got the Consolation prize) and Mg Linn Khant Kyaw (The one who got the Consolation prize) from University of Information Technology (Yangon).

Afterwards, the director of the Information Technology and Cyber Security Department at the National Cyber Security Center elucidated the processes of the cyber security policy, addressing the specific inquiries of the Chief Information Officers (CIOs) from government organizations present at the event.

Union ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, authorities from relevant ministries, union-level organizations, Union Ministries, Nay Pyi Taw Council and Chief Information Officers (CIOs) from the regional and state governments attended the mentioned ceremony.
